African-American Community Genetic Kit
Cannalogix Foundation is proud to bring to its members (new and old) the African American Community Genetic Kit. The African American Community Genetic Kit uses DNA to look at several factors to determine a person’s predisposition to disease and health risks associated with their African American Communities. We are proud to be a part of this research and will be updating you more as technology advances.
Individuals from African ancestry show high prevalence of Sickle Cell anemia, with roughly 1 in 13 children from African ancestry, born in the US, carrying the genetic mutation. At the same time, Sickle Cell anemia has been associated with child mortality rates ranging between 50 to 90% in Africa. In addition to sickle cell anemia, several other diseases also show high prevalence within the African Community.
Additionally, diabetes is also a huge concern, with diabetes being 60% more common in African American Community compared to Caucasians in the US.
