South Asian Community Genetic Kit
Cannalogix Foundation is proud to bring to its members (new and old) the South Asian Community Genetic Kit. The South Asian Community Genetic Kit uses DNA to look at several factors to determine a person’s predisposition to disease and health risks associated with their South Asian Communities. We are proud to be a part of this research and will be updating you more as technology advances.
South Asians have 2 to 4-fold higher risk of developing type-2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease compared to Europeans. Many studies have shown that the prevalence of coronary artery disease (CAD) in individuals of Indian origin is currently much higher than in other ethnic groups. It is also currently estimated that 18% of the Indian population suffers from hypertension, one of the major risk factors associated with CAD.
Type-2 diabetes is now reaching epidemic proportions in India, most prominently in urban Indians where there has been a very steep increase in prevalence over the last decade from 8.3% in 1992, to 15.5% in 2005. Other diseases are also found at varying frequencies in the South Asian population including Hirschsprung disease, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), prostate cancer, and type-1 diabetes.
‘s South Asian Community Kit is designed to assess your and your family’s genetic risk for hypertension, atherosclerosis, diabetes, hirschsprung disease, age-related macular degeneration and prostate cancer.
